Policies and Rules

Parents' Policy

By participating in the KMBA parents agree to the following:

  • Remember that my child plays sport for their enjoyment, not mine.
  • Encourage my child to play by the rules.
  • Teach my child that the process of playing, having fun, making friends, respecting the game and learning new skills is as important as winning.
  • Never ridicule any player.
  • Not force my child to participate.
  • Never publicly question an official's judgement or honesty.
  • Respect and show appreciation for coaches, administrators and others who give their time to provide activities for youth while recognizing that I have a responsibility to be a part of my child's development.
  • Support all efforts to remove abuse, in any form, from youth sporting activities.

Players' Policy & Expectations

By participating in the KMBA players agree to the following:

  • Play by the rules and in the spirit of the game.
  • Respect my opponents.
  • Play because I want to, not just for my parents, friends or coaches.
  • Control my temper and be respectful to all participants.
  • Be a team player.
  • Remember that winning is a result and that the process of learning skills, having fun, making friends, doing my best and managing my time is important.
  • Respect officials and coaches recognizing they are present to assist my teammates and me.

Players Expectations

  • Players are expected to be at practice in order for their team to improve. Unwarranted absences from practice may be subject to a reduction in play time. Coaches expect prior notification of missed practices.
  • All players must conform to expected guidelines concerning behaviour as outlined on the Conduct / Policy. (Players Code of Conduct÷
  • Parents are requested to help when needed including: timing, scoring and gym management.
  • Players and parents cannot request special placement (being with friends, being with a special coach, car pooling, etc.). Our first priority is to create balanced teams. If we allow special placement requests then we cannot achieve this goal.
  • Parents will abide by the KMBA's Parent Code of Conduct and understand there is a Zero Tolerance Policy
  • The KMBA reserves the right to release any player or coach from the KMBA.
  • KMBA has a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY. We expect players, coaches, and parents to refrain from any form of criticism directed toward officials, coaches or other players. A positive approach to all circumstances is the example we want to set in our league.

Coaching Policy

By participating in the KMBA coaches agree to the following:

  • Treat everyone fairly regardless of gender, ethnic background, colour, sexual orientation, religion, political belief or economic status.
  • Ensure my comments are constructively directed at performance rather than a person.
  • Display high personal standards and project a favourable image of the sport.
  • Not publicly critize other coaches.
  • Discourage the use of drugs, alcohol and tobacco in conjunction with sport.
  • Create a safe environment for activities including ensuring the activity is suitable for the age, experience, ability and fitness level of the participants.
  • Refrain from the use of profane, insulting, harassing or other offensive language and gestures.
  • Cooperate and defer to other professionals regarding the management of the athletes' health and well-being.
  • Understand athletes' goals and recognize and resolve any conflicts that arise in regard to the program's goals.
  • Be prepared to use other sports professionals when necessary and available.
  • Regularly seek opportunities to increase professional development.
  • Treat opponents and officials with respect and encourage athletes to do likewise.
  • Cooperate with athletes' parents and legal guardians.
  • Balance activities with an understanding of academic pressures to allow athletes' academic success.
